Wood Fences for Tecumseh homes

Tecumseh stretches from lakeside neighbourhoods on Lake St. Clair to the Oldcastle industrial area and farmland in the former Sandwich South township. Closer to Lake St. Clair, a six-foot solid wood fence catches a lot of wind. On exposed Tecumseh lots we tighten the post spacing, use heavier posts at gates and corners, or suggest a board-on-board or shadowbox style that lets some wind through while still blocking the view.

What's included

Cedar and pressure-treated wood fences, from classic dog-ear privacy to board-on-board and shadowbox, built on posts set to last. Depending on your property, the work can include:

Layout and locates

Gates that close

Local conditions in Tecumseh

Wind off Lake St. Clair puts extra load on solid fences in north Tecumseh, so we tighten post spacing or suggest designs that let some air through. In the rural south, longer runs and open ground call for heavier terminal posts and bracing.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for wood fences in Tecumseh, get clear answers to these before signing:

How deep will you set the posts, and how will they drain?
What fasteners will you use for rails and pickets?
Is the lumber cedar or pressure-treated, and what grade?
Who requests the utility locates?

By-laws, permits and locates

Tecumseh asks homeowners to get a fence permit, make sure the fence is on their own property and book a final inspection. Fences can be up to 1.9 metres in rear and side yards and 1.22 metres in front yards. Pool fences must be at least four feet high, not climbable and fitted with spring-loaded, self-latching gates on the pool side. Rules change, so we confirm current requirements with the Town and request utility locates before digging.
